A new indie cosmetics brand, Black Label Cosmetics, is launching three new liquid lipsticks this week! I love having the opportunity to introduce some of you to an indie makeup brand like this one, where they are trying to set themselves apart in the competitive cosmetics market today. What I like about this brand, is that the founder worked directly with a lab to formulate lipsticks based on what she wanted, and these are not private label lipsticks. They are launching with three shades and I’ve swatched and reviewed the formula below!
Black Label Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks Review
The packaging of these lipsticks has a very cool and dark vibe. The outer box has a white marble print which highlights the black logo on one of the sides. The ingredients are also listed on the outer box.
The liquid lipstick itself comes in a standard round tube, similar in size to a Kylie Cosmetics tube. The lid features an ombre design from silver to black. The tube is clear, accurately depicting the shade inside. The applicator is your standard doe foot applicator with a slight slant, which makes it easy to apply directly to the lips
These lipsticks will be available from December the 9th on the Black Label Cosmetics website. Within each lipstick is 3.5mL of product, which is on par with brands like Colourpop and Kylie Cosmetics where you receive 3.25 mL
The lipsticks are unscented.
The liquid lipsticks are thin but also have a creamy consistency to them. They do glide on very easily and apply with good pigmentation. I did find that the shade Lucid was patchy, but this could be because of the darker natural pigment of my lips.
Adding more than one coat does not affect the comfort of the lipstick or cause any flaking or crumbling, which is great.
These lipsticks are extremely comfortable to wear and in fact, you forget you are wearing them. Whilst I was testing these out I kept checking in the mirror to see if they were still on. On me, they lasted around 5-6 hours before fading evenly and needing a touch-up.
They take a little longer to dry to a matte finish, but once they are dry, you don’t feel them! They have very little transfer, but I wouldn’t call these transfer proof. You will notice a little bit of transfer when drinking and some fading when eating, but this will only become noticeable with the darker shade. The good thing about these lipsticks is, it is very easy to touch up and applying another coat doesn’t cause any crumbling or tackiness.
What I really like about this formula is that there is not a drying feeling and the lipstick doesn’t settle into or emphasize lip lines.
In terms of shade selection, which I will go into more detail below with my lip swatches, there are 3 unique shades.
Lucid – A pale peach-toned nude
Bitter Pill – A grey-toned mauve
Dark Horse – A deep cool-toned gothic purple
I actually really love how comfortable these lipsticks are and the fact that reapplying does not affect the look or comfort whatsoever. For this reason, I can always forgive how long they last.
Black Label Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks Swatches
This colour is absolutely gorgeous and I don’t have anything like this in my collection!
This is such a pretty shade and had no issues with pigmentation.
As you can see this shade is WAYYYY too light for my skin tone. It took 2 coats to get it at this opacity, as it appeared streaky and patchy on my lips. This is most likely due to the natural pigment of my lips being darker than this colour. It completely washed me out! If you are a lighter skin tone with not so much a yellow undertone, this will be a lovely nude.
