Why aren’t more people talking about this gorgeous eyeshadow palette??! I am so glad that I saw this palette in Stephanie Nicole’s Instagram feed and I am even more thrilled that I purchased it. This is the limited edition Coloured Raine Cosmetics Queen of Hearts Palette, a 12 shade eyeshadow palette. Coloured Raine is as American indie cosmetics brand that produces eyeshadow, lipsticks and nail polish! If you want to hear my thoughts on this palette, then keep reading below!
Coloured Rain Queen of Hearts Palette Review
The eyeshadow palette is packaged in a pull-out sleeve that features a regal/aztec type pattern in metallic gold with accents purple and red.
The palette itself is made out of a thick cardboard and is matte black with the Coloured Raine Logo in the centre. The outer packaging is almost rubbery in consistency, similar to the Nars packaging, so I think this outer material will similarly collect dust and makeup like the Nars. The palette itself is very sleek in design, however, I do wish that it featured that same Aztec design as the outer sleeve, as this would make it stand out more in my collection
The palette itself has a strong magnetic closure that I don’t think would open at all when travelling. It does have a mirror of a decent size that would enable you to use as a makeup mirror.
I purchased my Queen of Hearts palette from the Coloured Rain website for $50USD. International shipping to Australia was $11.95USD, but you may encounter customs charges depending on your country. Coloured Raine also has stockists in Ricky’s in the US and can also be purchased on Beauty Bay, which has free international shipping generally! If I was going to purchase this palette again, I would purchase from Beauty Bay.
Within this palette, there are 12 shadows that are 17.5 grams or 0.61 oz in total worth of product. When you compare this to other brands of similar price points such as the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette and the Kylie Kyshadow Palette which are $42 USD each for 0.28 oz and 0.45 oz respectively, you are getting so much more product, for just $8 USD more.
I was so impressed by the quality of the shadows, with one exception!
The matte shadows, are extremely pigmented and blend like a dream. They pick up quite nicely on a brush and are very easy to apply. The exception to this was the bright purple shade Ladyship, which was patchy and seemed drier in comparison to the other matte shades. You can definitely make it work, but it isn’t as effortless as the other mattes. This shade contains Carmine, which means it is not vegan and this different ingredient could be why the consistency is different.
The metallic shades are almost foiled shadows and this formula is really nice! They are pigmented with one swipe pigmentation and are really creamy and buttery. They apply really nicely to the eye with a flat shader brush as well as fingertips. You can also blend this out with a fluffy brush, but you will experience some fall out with these shades.
Coloured Raine really put together a nice combination of 6 mattes to 6 shimmers. There is a nice highlight shade and great transition shades, as well as a number of gorgeous metallics.
Crown – Pearlescent white with gold undertone.
Royal Highness – Metallic purple-toned taupe.
Your Majesty – Rich metallic copper with gold reflect.
Princess – Matte blushed pink.
Empress – Vibrant matte orange.
Queen Mother – Metallic plum with lavender hues.
Heir – Matte peach.
Noblewoman – Metallic burgundy with purple undertones.
Royal Prerogative – Terracotta.
Ladyship – Matte vivid purple
Duchess – Matte milk chocolate brown.
Dethrone – Sparkling espresso with gold reflect.
I love my Sigma brushes for applying eyeshadows. I use the following brushes;
Crease – E40 Tapered Blending Brush to apply and blend transition shade
Lid – E55 Eye Shading Brush to press and slide the shimmer shades to lid
Outer Corner – E34 Domed Utility Brush to add depth to the outer corner
Inner Corner – E30 Pencil Brush to highlight the inner corner
I am so surprised that more people aren’t talking about this palette. It is affordable, has a very wearable shade range and a really nice formula. This palette is limited edition, so if you are thinking about it, I wouldn’t wait too long.
