The new holiday releases are sending me to the poor house. Some of the most popular makeup brands are releasing great value gift sets like this one from Jouer Cosmetics. I find that gift sets are such a great opportunity to not only try out a formula but also gives you a chance to work out which shades suit you. Jouer Cosmetics put together this great set of 7 lip cremes and 1 lip topper in their Best of Nudes Gift Set. I wouldn’t normally review something that is currently unavailable with no word of a restock, however, these shades are their best sellers and you can purchase them individually.
Review of the Jouer Cosmetics Holiday 2016 Best of Nudes Gift Set
This set is packaged in a pretty decent sized box which has a metallic design radiating from the Jouer logo. Inside this box, there are individual spaces for each lipstick. I really love this packaging, as it makes the set feel more luxurious and expensive.
The packaging of the mini sized lipsticks is pretty similar in design to the full sized products. They come in square clear tubes, that depict the shade within the bottle. The doe foot applicator is really nice and easy to use, and it has a slant which makes application a breeze.
The set itself retailed for $36USD and was available from Jouer Cosmetics as well as Cult Beauty. The Jouer Cosmetics website has a virtual queue when this was released due to the amount of people trying to get this, that I ended up purchasing mine from Cult Beauty which was much easier.
The set retailed for $36USD but was over $95USD in value. Even though these minis seem small, each is 4 mL in volume in comparison to a full sized lip creme which is 6 mL and $18USD. It is the perfect way to try shades, without having to buy full sized shades.
If we compare the price and amount of product to the Kylie Cosmetics Mini sets which are also $36 but you only get something like 0.6 mL each, you receive so much more product for the price.
The lipsticks have a very pleasant vanilla scent, that you may either love or hate. I think it is actually quite nice. For those of you who hate scents, I do find that after the lipstick dries down, the scent becomes unnoticeable.
Formula and Results:
Within this set, 7 minis are the Long-Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipsticks and the other mini is the Long-Wear Lip Topper.
Long-Wear Creme Liquid Lipsticks
The formula of these is lightweight and slightly mousse-like in consistency. It glides really easily onto the lips with complete opacity. Unlike other matte liquid lipsticks I have tried, these take a little longer to dry down completely, roughly 4 – 5 minutes. I would suggest not to purse your lips together with any pressure, as the product may move around a little. Once the product dries down, these lip cremes are incredibly comfortable and do not feel drying, settle into any lip lines or crack/crumble. On me, these lipsticks lasted around 7 – 8 hours. After eating they did fade, but it was even and unnoticeable. It is very easy to reapply though without any tackiness or crumbling.
Long-Wear Lip Topper
The formula of this is a thicker gloss, but it feels very lightweight. They can be worn alone or over the top of lip cremes to add some shimmer. In terms of lasting power, these last longer than ordinary lip glosses but much less than the Long-Wear Creme Liquid Lipsticks and you would need to reapply after eating.
I really like the formula of these lipsticks and I have been practically living in Noisette since I received this kit. They have really nice colours available and I will be buying some more! If you ever see a gift set like this one from Jouer, I would highly recommend getting it, as not only is it great value, but it gives you an opportunity to try a variety of shades at a fraction of the price.
Swatches of the Jouer Cosmetics Holiday 2016 Best of Nudes Gift Set
Here are swatches of the all of the shades within this set on my arm. I currently have lip swatches of four of the shades and I will swatch them all soon! Please keep in mind that the shades may vary with skin tones.
This is the only lip topper that you receive within this set and is a metallic shimmering golden nude. This is meant to go over a lipstick but I am wearing the product on its own in the picture below. Pictures do not do it justice and it is really shimmery and catches the light.
This shade is described as a matte neutral deep ochre. On me, it is more of a dusty rose type shade. It is absolutely gorgeous and I really like the way this shade looks.
This a matte warm peachy nude. As you can see from my swatch below, this shade is WAY too light for my skin tone! It would definitely suit those who have fair to light skin tones.
Dulce de Leche
This shade is described as a matte cool nude. This shade again looks quite pink on my skin tone. I have looked at some other swatches on instagram, and this shade does have pink undertones on people with lighter skin tones than mine also.
This shade is described as a metallic warm peach and has a metallic finish. In different light it looks pinky and others it can look golden. Again I think this shade is too light for my skin tone on its own, and I think using a peachy pink liner underneath will make it perfect for me. You could also wear this on top of another shade too!
This shade is described as a matte warm chocolate brown. This is probably my favorite shade and I have pretty much lived in it as it is the perfect everyday nude for me. On paler skin tones, this would be more true to the bottle shade and be much darker.
This shade is described as a matte warm pink nude. On my arm swatches this does appear pink, but on my lips, it has more of a peachy coral undertone which is gorgeous!
This shade is described as a warm matte nude. This is a peachy shade that I can’t probably pull off on its own, but in the centre of another shade like noisette, it will be really nice.
Do you have any of these Jouer Lip Creme’s? Which shade is your favourite? Let me know in the comments below!
