I absolutely love mini sets! They are the best opportunity to try out the formula of a certain brand and a range of shades! When I saw this Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Mini Set on the Sephora website, I pressed ‘check out’ so fast! I have been dying to try out Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick formula, but I just didn’t know what shades to choose, because her colour range is so diverse. If you want to hear my thoughts on these liquid lipsticks as well as see some swatches, keep reading below!
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Mini Set Review
These eight mini liquid lipsticks come in a black box with Kat Von D’s signature dark and trendy vibe. The liquid lipstick itself comes in a round tube, which is just a miniature version of her full sized lipsticks. The black lid features a gorgeous rose design in silver. The tube itself depicts the shade of the lipstick. The applicator is your standard doe foot applicator with a slight slant, which makes it easy to apply directly to the lips.
I purchased this set from the Sephora Australia website for $75 AUD. Within each lipstick is 3 mL of product which I think is a great amount for a mini version when you consider that brands like Colourpop and Kylie Cosmetics have 3.25 mL in a full sized product.
These lipsticks are unscented.
What I like about this set is that they have included such a variety of shades that gives you the opportunity to see whether they would suit you. It is also a great opportunity for those that wouldn’t normally purchase or wear bright and vibrant colours, to try them out without spending too much money or wasting a full sized product. There are 8 shades within this set, which includes 6 must-have shades plus two new preview shades!
Plath – is a deep warm toned brown (new shade)
Sante Sangre – is described as a poison apple, but it is more of an orange toned red.
Mother – is a dusty mauve pink
Love Sick – is a mauve nude
Backstage Bambi – isa vivid hot pink
L.U.V. – is a rich violet fuschia
Roxy – is a bright deep grape purple (new shade)
Echo – is a unique navy blue shade.
These liquid lipsticks have a creamy consistency and glide onto the lips very smoothly. They take around a minute to dry down completely to a matte finish, so you have a little time to apply them and fix up any mistakes. The formula of most of the shades are very opaque and pigmented. I will touch upon the indivudual formula differences below with my swatches.
These lipsticks are extremely comfortable to wear and I love that they dont settle into any lip lines. As far as lasting power goes, these lipsticks are relatively long lasting! They have very little transfer, but I wouldn’t call them 100% transfer proof. You will notice a little bit of transfer when drinking and some fading in the centre when eating. I found this to be more noticable though with the more vibrant shades. The good thing about these lipsticks is, it is very easy to touch up and applying another coat doesn’t cause any crumbling, tackiness or peeling. With the shades Mother, Lovesick, Plath and Santa Sangre , they lasted around 6-7 hours with fairly even fade without the need for a touch up, which I was really pleased with. With the remaining brighter shades, eating decreased their wear time as the fade was more noticable as to be expected!
As previously mentioned, it was very easy to reapply with no issues. I have heard a lot of people say that this formula is quite drying, however I don’t think this formula is more drying than most other matte liquid lipsticks. I do however practically live in matte liquid lipsticks, so my threshold for dryness may be high.
I really like this formula and I am so glad that I picked up this set! I actually regret not trying Kat Von D lipsticks sooner!
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Set Swatches
Gorgeous warm brown shade. This has a great formula!
This is an orange-toned red. A great formula again.
This is a really pretty pink shade. I can see this suiting a lot of skin tones!
This is the perfect mauve nude shade! I really like this shade and will be picking up a full sized!
This shade is a really hot pink. I absolutely loved the colour of this shade but on its own I found the formula to be patchy and streaky. As you can see from my swatch, lets be real, it doesn’t look good. To acheive full opacity, I had to get on two – three coats, and I found that when I pursed my lips together it peeled and crumbled. I have a lot of lip liners in my collection, so matching a colour and wear this underneath did help but I know a lot of you wouldn’t have a hot pink lip liner. If you are wanting a bright pink liquid lipstick, I would definitely have a look into the Smashbox Always On Shockaholic Lipstick. I have a review and swatch of this shade here.
This is a pretty violet fuschia shade. I think would have to be my favourite of the set!
I absolutely love this shade however the formula wasn’t as great as I wanted it to be. I wanted this to work for me so badly because it is such a pretty shade! It pains me to type this, but the consistency of this shade wasn’t as creamy as the others, so it ended up being slightly patchy. It looked uneven and streaky in certain places. This is a preview shade, so I hope they work on this formula more, because if the formula was like the others, I would definitely buy a full sized version.
This is really unique navy blue shade. The formula was quite good but it did fade with eating and drinking.
