Kim Kardashian is a definite trend setter and is hands down the queen of nude lips! Kim collaborated with her sister Kylie and her brand Kylie Cosmetics to bring us a collection completely devoted to nudes! The gorgeous packaging completely sucked me in but it was the completely new formula that really intrigued me about this KKW x Kylie Cosmetics collection!!. If you are interested in my review, then keep reading below!
KKW x Kylie Cosmetics Review
I think this is my favourite Kylie Cosmetics packaging, out of all of the previous collections! The packaging reflects the theme of blush nudes and is really elegant!
The outer packaging is made from thick matte cardboard and pulls out to reveal the lipsticks inside. The lipsticks are inset within the inner packaging which I like because it doubles for display/storage.
The lipsticks themselves are frosted glass and the signature drips are a matte blush tone. The applicator is the same as the previous Kylie Lip Kits and is a typical doe foot applicator.
The KKW x Kylie Cosmetics collection is sold exclusively on the Kylie Cosmetics website for $45. It is currently sold out, but there is always the possibility that it will restock. International shipping is generally $14.95USD, but you may encounter customs charges depending on your country.
Each lipstick has 0.11 oz or 3 g of product. This is the standard amount of product in regular bullet lipsticks such as MAC or Smashbox. You are getting 4 lipsticks for a little over $11 each which is such a steal!
This formula is a completely new formula and is a fairly unique creme liquid lipstick formula. They are basically a bullet lipstick formula, in a liquid formula, and actually feel like a cross between a gloss and a creme lipstick. They seem more glossy than a conventional creme bullet lipstick.
The formula is more on the sheer side in one layer, which does make it very wearable. You can build up the pigmentation in additional layers, however, I found it to slightly affect the wear time.
They feel really creamy, lightweight and moisturising, so they are really comfortable to wear.
They apply really smoothly to the lips and feel really soft and moisturising.
I have naturally pigmented lips, so I found that that were a little sheer in one layer, but I didn’t mind this at all! I think it makes it more wearable for every day and work. Initially, when I was playing around with these I found these to be a little streaky, but I worked out that the usual lip balm I apply before my matte lipsticks, was for whatever reason interfering with the formula! On my bare lips, I applied them with the applicator and had no issues.
In terms of lasting power, they lasted about 2 hours before needing to reapply, but in saying that, they do not claim for these to be long wearing. I found that applying more than one layer, I had to apply more regularly, which isn’t a massive deal for me.
I am a matte lipstick lover, so I was paranoid that the product moved throughout the day. If you really firmly press/pucker your lips together you will find the product to settle in that area. I found that short, light quick presses together, as if you were saying “pop, pop, pop”, actually helped blend the shade more.
If you like more coverage, you can definitely use a lip liner underneath or even use these on top of a matte liquid lipstick!!
This collection included 4 shades all named after Kim Kardashian!
Kimberly – a true beige nude
Kim – a peachy nude
Kiki – a pink nude
Kimmie – a darker peachy pink nude.
At face value, I did not think these shades would work for my skin tone at all, however, I was pleasantly surprised! I do think that these shades are geared towards light to medium/tan skin tones, however, I do think you can make them work for anyone. The use of lip liners underneath can definitely alter the shades and make them more flattering for your skin tone. I will probably need to use a lip liner with the shade Kimberly, as it is bordering on being a little light for me.
I am really happy with the quality and formula of these lipsticks. They definitely will not be replacing my OG Kylie Matte Liquid Lipsticks as my favourite formula, but they will be a nice change to wear on days where my lips are feeling dry!
Kim Kardashian appeared on the Ellen Degeneres show recently, and mentioned that she would have loved to do a larger collection of more shades to cater for all skin tones! I really hope they do this! It is an amazing idea, even if they released another 4 set collection! I would absolutely love to see more mauve/brown toned nudes in this formula!!
KKW x Kylie Cosmetics Review
Here are swatches of these lipsticks on my arm without the use of a primer and in natural light. Please keep in mind that the shades may vary with skin tones.
I also swatched them on my lips without any base, or lip liner, and in only ONE layer. I do have more naturally pigmented lips so you can see my natural lip shade peeking through in one layer, but the use of a lip liner or another coat would definitely overcome this!
