I have been dying to try these Smashbox Cosmetics Always On Liquid Lipsticks for so long. After seeing these all over YouTube, I really wanted to try the shade Bawse which was made in collaboration with Lilly Singh aka iiSuperwomanii. I love Lilly and she has a similar skin tone to me, and this shade looks legit ‘BAWSE’ on her! I couldn’t wait any longer for these lipsticks to come down under. Luckily one of my relatives was going overseas and I picked out a pretty good selection of shades to try out.
Review of the Smashbox Cosmetics Always On Liquid Lipstick
The lipsticks come in a clear rectangular bottle with flat sides that allows you to see the actual shade within. The tube has a black lid and the black Smashbox logo on one of the sides.
What I absolutely love about this lipstick is the applicator. This is unlike any other applicator that I have tried. It is teardrop in shape with a pointy side for creating a precise line. It also has an indent in the centre to hold more product. I like this as you don’t have to continually go back for more product. It is a very flat applicator and glides on your lips quite nicely. Initially, when using this I thought the product itself was streaky, but it was actually my technique of using this applicator. I was pressing too hard and removing product.
These lipsticks are sold on the Smashbox Cosmetics website as well as Ulta and Sephora in the USA. As of now, these are not currently sold in Australia, but I spoke to my local Mecca Maxima beauty advisor who said these should be coming out early next year.
They retail for $24USD each and you receive 4mL of product. This does sit at a higher price point but it is comparable other brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills or Too Faced that also have matte liquid lipsticks for $20USD and $21USD respectively.
The formula is thin but creamy in consistency. They are so easy to apply and virtually glide onto the lips with the applicator. They are extremely pigmented and achieve full opacity in one layer. Usually, with brighter shades I find most brands formulas are patchy or streaky, and I didn’t experience that with these at all. The bright pink shade Shockaholic is the most pigmented bright pink I have ever tried.
They do dry down pretty quickly, so if you are someone who takes their time at get their lip line precise, I would suggest using a lip liner.
Some of the shades did emphasize any imperfections, in particularly my lip lines. Obviously, in a picture, this is more noticeable than it would be in person. I will be trying these with the use of a lip scrub beforehand and I’ll update this post if it helps.
This formula does last all day, even with eating and drinking. They do fade a little towards the end of the day, but this is even and not as noticeable as some other liquid lipsticks that I have tried.
The product also feels amazing all day and does not feel drying at all. This is because they have infused a primer oil into the formula. Because of this, they are not the most transfer-proof matte lipstick I have tried but they are extremely comfortable.
I really love how these feel and the overall look of them on the lips. I love the applicator as well as it is just really easy to use.
