Late last year, I was living vicariously through the most influential beauty gurus whilst they were “trippin’ with Tarte’ in Bora Bora! On this trip, Tarte Cosmetics was unveiling their new products, including their new Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint lipsticks. Out of everything they released, I was definitely most intrigued by these new liquid lipsticks. All the influencers were raving that they are a quick dry, full coverage and transfer-proof liquid lipstick. Keep reading below if you want to hear my thoughts!
Tarte Cosmetics Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint Review
Each lipstick comes in a black box with the signature gold Tarteist that features an artistic splatter in the shade that comes within. The lipsticks themselves come in a clear round tube depicting the actual shade with a black matte lid.
The applicator itself is a standard doe foot applicator with a small divet in the centre to hold more product. This applicator is very easy to use and the end is firm enough to create a sharp lip line.
I purchased these lipsticks from the Tarte Cosmetics website for $20USD each, however, I did purchase at a time of their Friends and Family discount of 30% off. Definitely sign up for the Tarte emails, because they do have discounts quite frequently!
Within each lipstick is 6 mL of product which I think is a really great amount consider that brands like Colourpop and Kylie Cosmetics have 3.25 mL in a full sized product. Colourpop lipsticks are cheaper, however, Kylie Cosmetics is on par in terms of price point.
These lipsticks are unscented.
They currently have 20 shades which range from nudes to deep berry shades. All of their shades are very wearable and they have a shade for almost anyone in any occupation. I purchased 6 shades out of the range:
Bestie: deep nude
Homeslice: peachy nude
Delish: rosy mauve
Sis: warm brown
Fly: raspberry pink
Friyay: purple fuschia
These liquid lipsticks have a creamy consistency and with the aid of the applicator glide onto the lips very smoothly. They dry extremely quickly, around 10 seconds for one layer. They dry down to a light matte finish.
All of the shades were extremely pigmented in one layer except for the shade Friyay, the bright fuschia shade, which is to be expected. Bright shades like this one, often need a second layer.
These lipsticks are comfortable to wear, but you may find them drying if your lips are dry to begin with. So lip prep with an exfoliator and a lip balm is a must!
As far as lasting power goes, these lipsticks are quite long lasting! They are transfer proof and won’t transfer onto your coffee cup etc. Depending on the shade, you will notice a little bit of fading within the centre when eating. Fading will obviously be more noticeable with the bright and the darker shades.
You can easily layer these lipsticks without any crumbling. I wouldn’t apply more than 2 layers though, because they may get a little tacky, depending on the shade.
I like this formula and how quick it sets. I love their shade range too and I still want to try the shades Acid Wash and Cheerleader!
Tarte Cosmetics Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint Swatches
This is a nude shade that was really pigmented. On my skin tone, it brought out more grey.
This is a peachy nude. Initially I thought this was a little streaky, but once it dried down it worked itself out.
I adore this shade! It reminds me of Jouer Noisette.
This is the perfect warm brown! Great pigmentation and not drying at all.
This is a gorgeous raspberry shade. This was pigmented and opaque.
This is a pretty purple shade fuschia shade. It did have pigmentation and streakiness issues in one layer, but this tends to always be the case across all brands for these type of shades. A second layer did the trick though!
What do you think of these shades? Have any of you tried these? Let me know in the comments below!
