The gorgeous Huda Kattan recently launched a lipstick rival to take on the current matte liquid lipstick market. The Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipsticks are a hydrating alternative to the typical drying matte lipstick. What I really love about these lipsticks is that the formula is ultra light and it really does not feel as though you are wearing a matte lipstick. I have the complete collection and have reviewed the formula as well as swatched the shades on my arm. I will be doing lipswatches for all of the shades soon, so check back for those!
Review of the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipsticks
Great care has been taken into the design of the packaging. The lipsticks are packaged in a really cute box with the design of Huda’s lips depicting the shade of the lipstick. It appears as though it is holding the lipstick. There is a transparent cover on the box with the logo and social media tags, which keeps the lipstick in place.
The lipstick itself is packaged within a frosted glass square-shaped tube with a black lid. As the bottle is frosted, it doesn’t completely depict the true shade colour.
I purchased the first four shades in my collection from the Shop Huda Beauty website for $20 USD each. The shipping varies between countries and I did find it to be a little expensive to ship to Australia. However, the shipping was incredibly fast. I ordered on a Friday evening and the items arrived on Monday morning. The rest of my collection I purchased from Cult Beauty as their shipping is a little more affordable and they stock some other great brands as well.
These lipsticks are on par in terms of price with other matte liquid lipsticks such as Kylie Cosmetics and the Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks which are $17 USD and $20 USD respectively. However, in terms of volume, you do receive more product of 5mL with these, in comparison to Kylie Cosmetics where you only receive 3.25 mL.
The lipsticks have a very sweet coconut/tropical type scent, that you may either love or hate. I think it is actually quite nice. For those of you who hate scents, I do find that after the lipstick dries down, the scent becomes unnoticeable.
The liquid lipsticks are thin and very light but in saying that, they are very pigmented. They go on very easily and one swipe will deliver complete opacity. However, I did find that the shade Material Girl and Video Star to be a little patchy, and need more than one coat. Adding one more coat does not affect the wear power or comfort of it at all.
The formula is very lightweight and it does not feel as though you are wearing a lipstick whatsoever. Unlike other typical matte lipsticks, the formula of these does not dry out your lips or emphasize any of your lip lines.
These lipsticks are extremely comfortable to wear and in fact, after a while, you forget you are wearing them. There is no dry cracked feeling that you get when wearing other liquid lipsticks for a long period of time. Initially when I applied these I thought they were tacky, however, I have since learned that they actually take a little longer to dry down to a complete matte finish. These are quite long lasting up until the point where you eat/drink. I have worn these a few times now and have found that in particularly after eating an oily meal, you do need to touch up the centre. Darker shades are more noticeable though and I have found that when wearing the lighter nude shades it isn’t as obvious and I do not really need to retouch at all after eating.
I actually really love how comfortable these lipsticks are, and for that reason, I can forgive the need to retouch after eating. As you can see from the lip swatches they really look nice and do not accentuate any dry areas or lip lines. If you are are a crazy lipstick lover like myself, definitely try these out!
Swatches of the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipsticks
Here are swatches of the all of the shades I purchased on my arm. I currently have lip swatches of four of the shades and I will swatch them all soon! Please keep in mind that the shades may vary with skin tones.
This is a plum shade. I did find this shade a little patchy and needed two coats of product.
This is a reddish brown shade. It is similar to True Brown K by Kylie Cosmetics.
This is a gorgeous brown mauve shade and my favourite out of the three shades I own.
This is a really pretty pink shade with grey undertones.
